  • Be prepared for eating out (clothes), some nice hikes and visits to the local curiosities.
  • Don’t forget to protect your cameras, etc. against humidity.

Check on board before undocking

  1. Fire : Position and handling of extinguishers ;
  2. Use of fire protection blanket;
  3. Fire extinction of engine.
  4. Evacuation : Position and handling of life raft;
  5. Life vests and harness;
  6. Preparation of survival bag.
  7. Signals : Distress; NC flag;
  8. Distress rockets, etc;
  9. Collisions : flooding (obstruction ext./int., pinochles, pumps) ;
  10. Rig failure (saw, scissor), emergency helm;
  11. Injuries : 1st aid (board pharmacy) ;
  12. Radio communication (VHF):
    1. Medical assistance request;
    2. Radio traffic rules;
    3. Sécurité, urgency, distress.
  13. MOB : alert, safety material & action, visualization;
  14. GPS, radio messages.
  15. Navigation :
    1. Check and use of instruments;
    2. Check of navigation and instrument lights;
    3. Check of charts and vessel documents.
  16. Maneuvers:
    1. Start and stop of engine;
    2. inverter and propeller drive;
  17. control of rigging;
  18. control of docking lines and fenders;
  19. Control of anchoring gear.
  20. Supplies : Water, gas, electricity;
  21. Amenities :
    1. Location and handling of valves
    2. Operation of stove and fridge;
    3. Operation of showers and toilets;
  22. Preparation of vessel and crew for undocking and sailing.

Sailing:

  1. Life vests and harness obligatory:
    1. with 2 reefs;
    2. with spinnaker;
    3. at night;
    4. with reduced visibility;
    5. if the skipper thinks it’s necessary.
  2. Always attach your harness line to life-line, shrouds or other rigid rigging as soon as leaving the cockpit.
  3. At periods of night or reduced visibility a headlight must be carried.
  4. Rule of 2 applies when working on the deck: a 2nd person must watch, ready to help.
  5. Always at least 2 persons in cockpit.

Docking:

  1. All crew participates in docking and undocking maneuvers.
  2. After docking lines and vessel are checked. Deck and cockpit tided up.
  3. Log book updated.
  4. Anker-Schluck prepared & served.
